Abstract

Disclosed herein is a wholly aromatic polyester comprising the structural units represented by the formulae (A), (B), (C), (D), and (E) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a halogen atom, a hydrocarbon group, an alkoxy group or a phenoxy group ##STR2## wherein A represents an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, a sulfonyl group, a carbonyl group, an alkylene group or an alkylidene group, or a single bond directly connecting the two benzene rings and R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7, R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 represent respectively a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a hydrocarbon group,
