Abstract
The present invention provides a process for the preparation of aryl carboxylic acids and derivatives thereof by the carbonylation of diaryliodonium salts. The diaryliodonium salts are reacted with carbon monoxide and water or an alcohol or amine in a base reaction medium having a pK.sub.b greater than about 8.
