Abstract

Yield of methyl-6-methoxy-1-naphthalene carboxylate is increased by reacting dimethyl sulfate with 6-hydroxy-1-naphthoic acid in organic solvent having flash point greater than 10.degree. C. and that is insoluble in water, in presence of mixed carbonates and hydroxides of alkali metal.
