Abstract

Compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is --C(O)Hal, --CN, or --C(O)Y in which Y is OR.sup.1 or NR.sup.1 R.sup.2 in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are H or hydrocarbyl or the like and R are certain optionally substituted hydrocarbyl and heterocyclic groups, are useful as herbicides and plant growth regulators or intermediates thereto. The intermediate 6-hydroxy and 6-oxo-2-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-4-carbonitriles are also new.
