Abstract

A process for preparing lower olefin using a calcium phosphate modified zeolite type catalyst is disclosed which is capable of reducing the decomposition of methanol into CO and CO.sub.2 and increasing the olefin selectivity. In the process, the reaction of methanol and/or dimethyl ether is carried out in the presence of an aluminosilicate zeolite-type catalyst which has a Ca-containing compound and a P-containing compound contained therein in predetermined amounts.
