Abstract

Polyorganosiloxane traction fluids which contain significant amounts of mono-organosiloxane units are described. Specifically, the disclosed polyorganosiloxane traction fluids contain 7 to 45 weight percent siloxane units of formula [RSiO.sub.3/2 ], 40 to 90 weight percent of siloxane units of formula [R.sub.2 SiO], and 0 to 20 weight percent of siloxane units of formula [(CH.sub.3).sub.3 SiO.sub.1/2 ] where the molar ratio of [R.sub.3 SiO.sub.1/2 ] units to [RSiO.sub.3/2 ] units is less than 1 and where R is either cyclohexyl radicals, phenyl radicals, and/or methyl radicals. The polyorganosiloxane traction fluids of this invention are particularly well suited for use in traction drive systems and transmissions subject to wide operating temperature conditions.
