Abstract
A process for producing basic aluminum magnesium carbonate, Al.sub.2 Mg.sub.6 (OH).sub.14 (CO.sub.3).sub.2.4H.sub.2 O, by carbonating an aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH).sub.3) and magnesium hydroxide aqueous reaction mixture with carbon dioxide in the presence of at least 6 moles of a base selected from the group consisting of ammonia, mono, di or trialkylamines, pyridine or piperidine, per mole of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 present. The product is useful as an antacid.
