Plasmids derived from Corynebacterium glutamicum, particularly pRN3.1, of suitable size, about 3.1 kilobases in length and weight about 2.0.times.10.sup.6 daltons, and having a limited number of restriction sites therein, suitable as vehicles for genetic engineering of Corynebacterium.
