Abstract
A process for preparing gamma-caprolactone comprising heating polycaprolactone in the presence of catalytically effective amounts of an acid comprised of hydrogen halides in a water solution to a temperature in the range of about 175.degree. C. to about 275.degree. C. and the ratio of water to polycaprolactone is in the range of about 1:1 to about 10:1.
