Abstract

A method for preparing lower alkyl .alpha.-fluoro-.alpha.-cyanoacetate and its carbanion by reacting hexafluoropropene with ammonia, and then reacting the obtained product with an alkali hydroxide in a lower alkyl alcohol. The carbanion is prepared by reacting the product .alpha.-fluoro-.alpha.-cyanoacetate with an alkali fluoride.
