Abstract
Disclosed is a method for the preparation of ketones by a catalytic vapor phase reaction of using reactants such as ketones with carboxylic acids and/or carboxylic acid precursors. An example of such a reaction is that of acetone with pivalic acid over a ceria-alumina catalyst at a temperature of nearly 470.degree. C. to produce pinacolone.
