Abstract

An austenitic stainless steel plate containing up to 0.08 wt. % of carbon, up to 1.0 wt. % of silicon, up to 2.0 wt. % of manganese, 8.0-16.0 wt. % of nickel, 16.0-20.0 wt. % of chromium, 0-30 wt. % of molybdenum, up to 0.25 wt. % of nitrogen and the balance of iron and inherent impurities, is manufactured by rolling a stainless steel blank at a temperature higher than T.sub.R (.degree.C.)=940+30(%Mo), and then cooling the rolled blank from a temperature above 800.degree. C. to a temperature below 500.degree. C. at a cooling speed higher than Rc (.degree.C./sec.) shown by the following equations:
