Derivatives of biliary acids having formula I ##STR1## wherein St has the meaning of the 17-etiocholanyl residue, having two or more hydroxyl groups both in the .alpha. and .beta. conformation, some of which being optionally replaced by keto groups, and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts with alkaline or alkali-earth metals, or with organic bases.
