Abstract
o-Acylphenols and p-acylphenols are prepared by reacting phenol with an acid halide and aluminum chloride, using a halobenzene as the solvent, at from 15.degree. to 55.degree. C. and then at from 55.degree. and 200.degree. C. The compounds obtainable by the process of the invention are valuable starting materials for the preparation of drugs, pesticides and dyes.
