Abstract

A method of producing .alpha..sub.2 -adrenergic receptor agonist activity by contacting an .alpha..sub.2 -adrenergic receptor with an effective amount of a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently selected from hydrogen or loweralkyl of 1 or 2 carbon atoms, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
