Abstract

A process is herein described for obtaining lower alkyl esters of C-alkyl-tartronic or C-halogenalkyl-tartronic acids according to the reaction: ##STR1## in which R and R.sup.2, like or unlike each other, may be alkyls having C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 or halogenalkyls having C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 and R.sup.1 is an alkyl having C.sub.1 -C.sub.5.
