Abstract

Disclosed are novel catalyst support compositions and novel catalyst based thereon as well as methods for preparing same. The novel support compositions are prepared by coprecipitating aluminum ions and silicate ions in the presence of solid porous particles. One method for preparing the novel catalyst of the invention is to coprecipitate at least one catalytically active metal during the coprecipitation of the solid support composition. In preferred embodiments of the present invention the catalytically active metal is from Group VIII of the Periodic Table of the Elements, preferably nickel, and/or cobalt, and the resulting catalyst can optionally contain one or more metals from either Group IB or IIA of the Periodic Table of the Elements.
