Abstract

Tetrahalobenzene compounds of the formula (IX): ##STR1## in which each X is independently chloro or fluoro, are prepared by electrolyzing in a protic medium a compound of the formula (IV): ##STR2## in which X has the meaning already given, each R is independently C.sub.1-4 alkyl and A is a radical capable of forming an anion A.sup.-. The compounds are useful in the synthesis of insecticides.
