Abstract
A multicomponent membrane having improved permeation characteristics for separation of one gas from a mixture of gases by permeation of the one gas through the membrane. The membrane is in the form of a porous, anisotropic substrate membrane and a coating in contact with the substrate membrane, the coating being made of poly(dimethyl siloxane), containing 1 to 20 weight percent of a permeation-modifying radical selected from the group consisting of ##STR1## The coating is applied to the substrate in the form of a solution of 0.05 to 1 weight percent of the coating in a suitable solvent such as pentane.
