Abstract

This invention provides an extract from the plant Myrcia fallax (Myrtaceae) Peru and a method of obtaining same. The extract is obtained by subjecting the plant to a series of extraction steps with a plurality of solvents having different polarities. In each extraction step, the solvent used has a polarity higher than that used in the preceding extraction step. All extraction steps are conducted at room temperature. The extracts have been found to possess biological activity.
