Abstract

An in vitro enzymatic process which efficiently converts (+,-)-tropicamide to essentially pure (+), (-)-tropicamide O-.beta.-D-glucuronide. This product is then separated, advantageously, into the novel compounds (+)-tropicamide O-.beta.-D-glucuronide and (-)-tropicamide O-.beta.-D-glucuronide. The products disclosed herein absorb ultraviolet light, and, thus, can be incorporated into suitable plastic films which are then useful for screening out harmful ultraviolet radiation for the protection of packaged goods. Also the products can be used to protect the skin against burning by sunlight.
