Abstract
The method of inhibiting or reducing the level of asphaltic sediment formed in residual fuels by adding an alkylaryl sulfonic acid stabilizer to said fuel comprising the improvement of adding an effective stabilizing amount of said stabilizer to said fuel oil and maintaining said stabilized fuel at a selected high temperature of at least about 190.degree. C. for a time sufficient to inhibit the formation or reduce the level of asphaltic sediment.
