Abstract
The invention provides a novel method for non-electrolytically forming a protective film on the surface of a shaped article made of aluminum or an aluminum-based alloy having high durability in respect of corrosion resistance and light resistance. The method is particularly suitable for the surface treatment of aluminum-made fastener elements of a slide fastener chain fastened to the fastener tape along the periphery thereof. The inventive method comprises the steps of cleaning the surface of the aluminum article, e.g. by degreasing and rinsing with water, chemical conversion treatment of the article in a treatment solution to form a conversion film on the surface, removal of the treatment solution from the surface of the article as completely as possible and heating the article at a temperature in the range from 90.degree. to 150.degree. C., preferably, for 3 to 9 minutes to increase the stability and to strengthen the adhesion of the conversion coating film on the surface of the article.
