Abstract
A process for the continuous preparation of phthalimide by reacting phthalic anhydride with ammonia in about the stoichiometric ratio, in a mixing apparatus and subsequently in a reaction tube at a particular flow velocity and a particular temperature. The phthalimide obtainable by the process of the invention is a valuable starting material for the preparation of dyes, pesticides and pigments, especially copper phthalocyanines.
