Abstract

A process for producing an aminoanthraquinone, which comprises feeding of a nitroanthraquinone and an alkali sulfide continuously into a reaction zone kept at a temperature of from 80.degree. to 140.degree. C., the alkali sulfide being used in an amount of 1.6 or more times the mole number of the nitro group, and withdrawing the reaction product continuously or intermittently from the reaction zone; and an aminoanthraquinone obtained by the above process which is one of the most important intermediates of anthraquinone dyes.
