Abstract

The invention relates to ceramic fibers and wools formed from silicate-containing melts of combustion residues of fossile fuels and to a process for the production of said fibers and wools. The new fibers and wools are characterized in that they are spun from melts heated to temperatures of 700.degree. to 1650.degree. C., in particular from 1000.degree. to 1450.degree. C., and consisting of untreated fly ash or of a mixture of the components a+b or a+c or a+b+c. the components a, b, c being the following:
