Novel 5,6-dihydro-11-alkylene-morphanthridin-6-ones of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 have the meanings given in the description, their preparation and their use. The novel compounds are particularly useful in the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
