Abstract

Guaiacol glycerine ether is obtained in very good yield and in very high purity by reacting glycidol with o-methyoxyphenol in the presence of an alkali hydroxide, an alkali alcoholate, an alkali cyanate or an alkali thiocyanate at 80.degree. to 150.degree. C. An especially effective purification of the crude product can be obtained by adding hydrogen peroxide, preferably prior to cooling.
