Abstract

An aqueous ink composition having a water-soluble dye and a wetting agent dissolved in water is disclosed. The composition uses at least one water-soluble dye of the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a phenyl group, a substituted phenyl group, an alkyl group or a substituted alkyl group; R.sub.2 is an alkyl group, a phenyl group, a substituted phenyl group, a cyano group, a hydroxyl group, an alkoxy group, an amino group, an acylamino group, an anilino group, a ureido group, an alkoxycarbonyl group or a carbamoyl group; X is a halogen atom, an alkyl group or an alkoxy group; n is 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5; and m is 1, 2, or 3, provided that the sulfo group in the formula (I) may be an alkali metal salt, an ammonium salt or an organic amine salt.
