Abstract
Vicinal epoxides are prepared by decomposition of .beta.-haloalkyl carbonates or bis(.beta.-haloalkyl) carbonates in the presence of a complex of an alkali metal halide and a monomeric or polymeric chelating agent comprising an element of group V of the Periodic Table at a temperature from about 25.degree. C. to about 250.degree. C.
