Abstract
The invention relates to the synthesis of isosorbide mononitrates. The process according to the invention consists in reacting a hydrazine derivative with isosorbide dinitrate, in a polar solvent medium. The reaction is preferably carried out at the reflux temperature of the solvent medium, with an excess of the hydrazine derivative. A preferred solvent medium is a mixture of tetrahydrofuran and methanol. The process leads to the preferential formation of isosorbitol-2-mononitrate, which is a coronary vasodilator.
