Abstract
.epsilon.-Caprolactam is melt polymerized in the presence of water and from about 0.01 mole percent to less than about 0.6 mole percent of an amine boiling at a temperature greater than 245.degree. C. An amine may be a primary or secondary amine wherein the NH has attached thereto, for example alkyl radicals, cycloalkyl radicals, and the like. The resultant polymer has a methanol extractable content of 3 weight percent or less.
