Abstract

A copolymer derived from maleic anhydride and dicyclopentadiene, containing hydroxyl groups, having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R and R' may be the same or different, selected from the group consisting of H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.14 alkyl-isobutyronitrile, phenyl which is optionally substituted by halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl-substituted phenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.14 alkoxy-, C.sub.1 -C.sub.14 acyloxy- or halogen-substituted benzoyl, and n=3-10. The copolymer is useful for the sizing of paper.
