Abstract

A method for complexing metal oxide particles in an organic medium is disclosed. The method comprises incorporating into said medium an effective amount of a complexing agent of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl and alkenyl groups containing from 4 to 22 carbon atoms, aryl groups containing from 4 to 10 carbon atoms, alkyl and alkenyl groups containing from 4 to 22 carbon atoms substituted with one or more aryl groups containing from 4 to 10 carbon atoms and aryl groups containing from 4 to 10 carbon atoms substituted with one or more alkyl or alkenyl groups containing from 1 to 22 carbon atoms; R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, --(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.n H, wherein n is an integer from 1 to 10, alkyl and alkenyl groups containing from 1 to 22 carbon atoms, aryl groups containing from 4 to 10 carbon atoms, alkyl and alkenyl groups containing from 1 to 22 carbon atoms substituted with one or more aryl groups containing from 4 to 10 carbon atoms and aryl groups containing from 4 to 10 carbon atoms substituted with one or more alkyl or alkenyl groups containing from 1 to 22 carbon atoms; R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, -- CH.sub.3, and --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.3 ; and R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, --CH.sub.3, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.3, and --(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.n H wherein n is an integer from 1 to 10.
