Abstract

Dithiophosphate lubricant additives of the formula I ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, each independently of the other, represents C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 alkyl which can be interrupted by 1 to 2 oxygen atoms, C.sub.6 -C.sub.10 aryl or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl)-aryl, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 together represent C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 alkylene which can be interrupted by 1 or 2 oxygen atoms, and represents --OH, --NR.sub.3 R.sub.4, --OH.NR.sub.3 R.sub.4 R.sub.5, --NHCH.sub.2 COOH, --NHCH.sub.2 COOR.sub.1, --NH(CH.sub.2 COOH).sub.2, --N(CH.sub.2 COOR.sub.1).sub.2, --N(CH.sub.2 COOH).sub.2.NR.sub.3 R.sub.4 R.sub.5, --N(CH.sub.2 COOH.NR.sub.3 R.sub.4 R.sub.5).sub.2, --NHCH.sub.2 OH or --N(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OH).sub.2, wherein R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5, each independently of the other, represents hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, or R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 together represent C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 alkylene which can be interrupted by an oxygen, sulphur or nitrogen atom.
