Abstract
A novel chemical compound, viz. 1,1,2,2-tetramethyl-1,2-disilacyclobutane has the formula: ##STR1## A method for preparing 1,1,2,2-tetramethyl-1,2-disilacyclobutane comprises reacting vapors of 1,2-bis(dimethylchlorosilyl)ethane with vapors of metallic sodium and/or potassium at a temperature within the range of from 250.degree. to 380.degree. C. under a pressure of vapors of 1,2-bis(dimethylchlorosilyl)ethane of from 0.1 to 10 mm Hg, followed by condensation of vapors of the resultant desired product.
