Abstract
An improved method for hydrogenating succinonitrile, optionally carrying substituents, to form 2-pyrrolidones, in the liquid phase in the presence of ammonia, using a fixed-bed catalyst wherein the catalyst may be regenerated by successively passing liquid ammonia at 75.degree.-130.degree. C., then hydrogen at 130.degree.-350.degree. C., and then liquid ammonia again at 75.degree.-130.degree. C. over the catalyst.
