Abstract

Two handed holding apparatus for all types of hand held firearms, including handguns, rifles, submachine guns and the like, includes a first handle fixed to the firearm to one side of a barrel bore axis and a second handle fixed to the firearm to an opposite side of the barrel bore axis in alignment with the first handle. The two handles, adapted to be individually held by one of a user's hands, divide firing recoil between the user's hands in a generally symmetrical manner to eliminate muzzle jump. For handguns, having a preexisting handle, a frame extension is provided, to a projecting end of which the second handle is fixed in orthogonal relationship to the first handle. To convert existing handguns, the frame extension is attached to the first handle and replaces one of the existing handgrips. The frame extension is configured to receive a pistol scope or fixed sights. In a variation, the frame extension is permanently fixed to the pistol frame, as an addition or as part of the original frame. For non-handgun firearms, such as rifles, first and second handles are fixed in coplaner relationship to a frame attached to the barrel at a balance point. To modify existing types of such firearms, the shoulder stock is removed and replaced with a short receiver enclosing stock, to a rearward end of which is attached a carrying and firearm supporting sling. A trigger link connected to an existing trigger enables firing of the firearm by a hand holding one of the two added handles.
