Abstract
Polyquaternary polymeric flocculants, containing a substantially reduced total residual amount of epihalohydrin and 1,3-dihalo-2-propanol and less than about 1000 ppm of dialkylamine, are produced by reacting a polyquaternary polymer prepared from epihalohydrin, dialkylamine, and optionally a polyfunctional amine with a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are alkyl (C.sub.1 -C.sub.3), and R.sub.5 is hydrogen or hydroxyl.
