Abstract

A process of cooling hot granular solids which are at temperatures from about 400.degree. to 1300.degree. C., which comprises maintaining solids in an agitated or trickling state in a cooling zone, causing air to rise through the cooling zone in direct contact with the solids, and utilizing at least part of the sensible heat of the solids so dissipated.
