Abstract
Azo dyes are very simply made in high purity and very good yield by coupling a diazonium compound with a coupling compound in a mixture essentially of water with a simple alkanol having four to six carbons and soluble in water to the extent of not over about 15% by weight at 15.degree. C. This procedure is particularly effective with compounds that are ordinarily difficult to couple.
