Abstract
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of thieno[3,2-c]pyridine, wherein 4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridine is catalytically dehydrogenated in the gaseous phase at a temperature of from about 350.degree. to about 600.degree. C. using a catalyst comprising at least one metal or metal oxide of which the metal component is selected from chromium, nickel, molybdenum, cobalt and tungsten, optionally in association with magnesium, sodium or iron or the oxides thereof, the catalyst being deposited on an inert carrier.
