Abstract
A water-dilutable polymer for use in water-borne coatings comprising the half ester zwitterion reaction product of a polymer containing cyclic acid anhydride groups with an alkanolamine of the formula ##STR1## where R is hydrogen or hydroxy, R.sup.1 is hydrogen, hydroxy or methyl and can be the same or different, and R.sup.2 is hydrogen or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group of from 1 to 3 carbon atoms.
