Medical echo sounding apparatus of the sector scanner type in which the coupling liquid between the ultrasonic transmitting-receiving head and the medium being examined results in a speed of propagation of the ultrasonic radiation which is substantially less than the speed of propagation in the medium being examined. For use in obstetrics and cardiology and for the construction of sounding heads of small dimension.
