Abstract
An absorbent article or portion thereof comprises first and second layers joined together intimately in a generally parallel and coextensive manner. Each layer has a pattern of multiple discrete holes or regions of low density which are separated by regions of high density. The layers are aligned to minimize the number of holes or regions of low density of one layer which substantially overlap one or more holes or regions of low density of the other layer. The articles are characterized by better wicking, lower thermal conductivity and improved appearance compared to articles in which a higher degree of overlap of low density areas is noted. A process for making absorbent articles having improved wicking is also disclosed. This process is carried out by aligning the adjacent layers of the absorbent body as described above.
