Abstract
N-(hydroxymethyl)-N-(1,3-dihydroxymethyl-2,5-dioxo-4-imidazolidinyl)-N'-(hy droxymethyl)urea prepared by the reaction of allantoin with formaldehyde is disclosed. The compound exhibits activity against bacteria, mold and yeast and hence is useful as a preservative for products susceptible to microbial contamination.
