Abstract

A pharmaceutical tablet composition for oral administration is disclosed which provides for accelerated release <> of a finely divided active ingredient contained therein which is only slightly soluble < in the gastrointestinal tract of a warm-blooded animal >. The tablet composition is characterized as containing a micro-dispersed, amorphous, porous silica having a primary particle size of between about 1 and 15 .mu.m, a BET surface of between about 350 and 450 m.sup.2/ g, and a pore volume of between about 1.4 and 1.7 ml/g. A method of producing the tablet composition is also disclosed.
