Abstract
A shaped confined structure composed of a mass of diamond and/or cubic boron nitride crystals coated with elemental non-diamond carbon in contact with a supporting silicon carbide substrate is infiltrated by fluid silicon producing a like-shaped composite of a polycrystalline body component integrally bonded to the supporting silicon carbide substrate.
