Abstract

A high precision continuous flow rheometer utilizes an elongated restriction such as a slit or capillary tube that is supplied with fluid from a microprocessor controlled metering pump at various flow rates. An inlet chamber having a longitudinal axis that is skewed with respect to the longitudinal axis of the restriction is used to convey fluid from the metering pump to the restriction. Three pressure transducers are disposed along the slit or capillary tube and supply signals to the microprocessor from which the viscosity and elasticity, or first normal stress difference, of the fluid may be continuously calculated at various flow rates.
