Abstract

A polyol ester, useful as a base stock in synthetic lubricants, comprising the reaction product of: (a) one or more aliphatic polyhydric alcohols containing from 2 to 8 primary hydroxyl groups; (b) a minor amount of iso-palmitic acid; and (c) one or more monocarboxylic acids having from 5 to 11 carbon atoms. These esters exhibit unusually good low temperature, viscosity and seal swell properties. Engine oil additive compatibility is excellent.
